tions and even assault, has reached such a pitch, that surely

it is time the Government took cognisance of the fact.

in conclusion I beg most respectfully to

state for the inforretion of His Excellency the Governor, as

set out in paragraph 11 above, that I have done all in my

power, for the credit of the Colony, to stop the scandal which

must necessarily attach to this matter, and that i have prefer-

red to follow the best advice of leading Counsel in the Colony,

and have amply apologised: but if my apology is not accepted 1

have no alternative left but earnestly to call for a full

searching enquiry into things generally.
